Could be. Not being either European or Catholic, I really couldn't contradict it. Most of what I was saying was deduction from reading the encyclopedia. Interesting about Belen Viviente. I am intrigued that there is a windmill in the scene. Maybe from the Netherlands?

omotn61, you refer to the "Inmaculada Concepciˇn", celebrated on December 8th which also could represent this photograph, but I think the girl is to young for representing Holy Mary. My guess was that this is part of the "Living Navity" (Belen viviente), catholics families, schools and even town halls prepare during christmas time, between the 24th of Dec. (birth) and ending on Jan. 6th when the 3 Kings brought their gifts to Bethlehem. This is also the reason why in Spain and some other latin-american countries the gifts are still given Jan. 6th and not on xmas.

what I said before goes with your comment, baerbel2408, the annunciation was when Gabriel told Mary about being with child by the Holy Spirit, and Mary knelt down and said let it be as the Lord wants with me. So, I figure some catholic schools or churches might put on such a pageant.

Could be a theatre representation, also part of scenery of the birth celebration of Jesus at Christmas, many countries, even at school, celebrate. It is the so called "Belen Viviente" (Living Nativity). They still do so in many catholics countries.

I was disturbed by it myself, but maybe it was a production someone put on, like the annunciation, or maybe Joan of Arc? All we see is an old picture, but it meant something to someone once.

Uh...

Ok, I really have no words for this one, but the desire to comment is overwhelming. Does anyone else find this utterly...ridiculous?
